Rommelsbacher BG 1805/E review

The only mini oven on this site that publishes what will actually fit inside it: baking tins up to 31.5 cm (12.4 in) in diameter. Forty-two liters, four stainless elements, stepless 80 to 230 °C (176 to 446 °F), seven heating modes, a motorized spit rated for two chickens, a 120-minute timer with a continuous setting, four shelf levels and a door that comes apart for cleaning.

The net of it The one that answers the question this whole family dodges. Every mini oven is sold in liters; Rommelsbacher publishes the tin diameter it accepts — 31.5 cm (12.4 in) — which is the figure a baker can actually check against their own cupboard. Add stepless 80–230 °C (176 to 446 °F), seven heating modes, four shelf levels and a door that dismantles, and the price step buys specification rather than badge. The 120-minute timer with a hold setting is the quiet luxury.

31.5 cm (12.4 in)

One number, and it is the reason this oven is at the top of its hub. Rommelsbacher publishes the maximum baking tin diameter the cavity takes. Every other mini oven on this site publishes liters and leaves you to guess.

Liters are a volume. A tin is a diameter. The gap between the two is where disappointed buyers come from, and this is the only maker of the four that closes it.

Stepless, 80 to 230 °C (176 to 446 °F)

The widest published range here, and the only stepless one — a dial rather than steps. The 80 °C (176 °F) floor is 20 degrees below the Sommertal’s, which is the difference between holding something warm and slowly cooking it.

Seven modes

Top heat, bottom heat, top-and-bottom — each also with the fan. That is genuine control: browning a gratin from above is a different job from baking a loaf through, and most mini ovens offer one compromise between them.

Four stainless elements, four shelf levels.

The rotisserie

Motorized, and rated for two chickens — where the Sommertal’s is rated for one.

The timer

120 minutes, with a continuous setting and a buzzer. Every other oven here stops at 60. A hold position is what makes an oven usable for something slow.

Cleaning

The door comes apart, and the crumb tray comes out. On an appliance that lives with baked-on grease, being able to dismantle the glass is worth more than another liter of cavity.

The plus side, and the minus

Strengths

  • Publishes the maximum baking tin diameter — 31.5 cm (12.4 in) — which nothing else here does
  • Stepless 80–230 °C (176 to 446 °F) and seven heating modes, including each with convection
  • A 120-minute timer with a continuous setting, twice anything else here
  • The door dismantles for cleaning, and the crumb tray comes out

Compromises

  • The most expensive mini oven here, by 60 € over the Sommertal
  • 42 liters is slightly under the Sommertal’s 45
  • No offer on Amazon UK or Amazon US at the time of writing
  • The Spanish price is around 60% above the German one

What readers want to know

Which of my tins will fit?

Rommelsbacher publishes a maximum of 31.5 cm (12.4 in) in diameter. That is the only figure of its kind among the mini ovens on this site, and it is exactly the number to measure your own tins against — this site’s baking tin hub reports internal dimensions for the same reason.

What are the seven heating modes?

Top heat, bottom heat and top-and-bottom, each of those also available with the fan, per Rommelsbacher. That is more control than any other mini oven here offers, and it is what separates browning a top from baking through.
