Affiliate disclosure

The full version, in plain language rather than legal boilerplate.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

CookVerdict is a participant in the Amazon Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.

What that means in practice

Every "Check price on Amazon" button on this site is an affiliate link. If you click it and buy something, Amazon pays us a percentage of the sale. You pay exactly the same price as you would reaching Amazon any other way.

Every price button on this site links straight to Amazon, with our affiliate tag in the address. Those links carry rel="nofollow sponsored": they are advertising, and they are labeled as advertising to search engines.

Where this could bias us, and what we do about it

Commission is a percentage, so in principle we earn more from expensive recommendations. Three structural facts push against that, and we would rather you could check them than take our word:

  • We do not rank by commission, and no ranking on this site has ever been reordered because of what a product pays. Where the honest recommendation is the cheapest item on the page — or a technique to learn rather than a product to buy — that is what the page says.
  • Some of the things we recommend most firmly cost under twenty dollars, and several of the products we cover are not the ones we send people to first. Price does not decide the order, and neither does commission.
  • Where we cannot verify that a product exists on the Amazon store this site links to, we send you to a search rather than to a product page — a link that earns us less and costs you nothing.

What we never do

We do not accept payment for placement, ranking or favorable coverage. We do not publish sponsored content. We do not change a recommendation because a different product pays better — commission is a percentage set by Amazon for a whole category, so within a page it cannot pay better, and that is the point.

When we move a product down

We do move a product down a page, for one reason only: when it cannot be bought and used in the United States. Some products on this site are European models — built for 220–240 volts, or listed on the European Amazon stores and not on Amazon.com. Those pages say so, explain what that means on a 120-volt outlet, and point to the models that are sold here. They are placed after the products you can actually buy, and that ordering costs us commission rather than earning it.

Prices

Where you see a live price on this site, it is fetched from Amazon's price history for the United States store and cached for a few hours. Prices change constantly and the figure on Amazon at the moment of purchase is the only one that counts. Indicative prices written into our reviews are exactly that — indicative — and each review states the day its price was read.
