The best pressure cooker seals, valves and spares for 2026

Every pressure cooker on this site, electric or stove-top, depends on a rubber ring that is a consumable — and most makers publish a replacement interval for it. A cooker that no longer comes up to pressure is, far more often than not, a worn ring rather than a fault. The specification that matters is exact model fit: rings differ by a few millimeters between ranges from the same maker, and the compatible-model list is published. We report fit, material, the maker's stated interval where one exists, and whether the part is offered by the manufacturer or by a third party — a distinction we state plainly and leave to the reader, since pressure equipment is one of the few places on this site where that choice is not merely about price.

The need before the model, across seals & valves

Keeping the appliance in service

The seal is the wear part of a pressure appliance. With no spare available, the whole appliance becomes unusable.

Hawkins A10-09 Sealing Ring for 2 to 4 Liter Cookers

Staying supple after a year in the cupboard

A gasket stored flat and out of the light keeps its elasticity; rolled up in a warm drawer it hardens. The resealable pouches of twin packs are what make the second one usable.

Who buys what, across seals & valves

Replacing the seal every season
Changing the seal every one to two years on principle avoids failure at the wrong moment. It is a few euros a year.
Steam escaping at the rim
Steam escaping at the side almost always signals a hardened, dirty or badly seated seal, before any other fault.
Persistent smells
The seal absorbs the smells of spiced dishes and gives them back to the next one. That alone is reason enough to change it.

Nothing is free: the trade-offs of seals & valves

Original seal or an aftermarket one
The original seal guarantees the exact diameter and profile. On a part that seals under pressure, the saving is badly placed.
A silicone that lasts, a rubber that costs less
Silicone takes heat better and deforms less; rubber costs less and hardens sooner. Not every pressure cooker accepts both materials.
Spare in stock against aging
A spare seal saves canceling a meal and ages in the drawer too. One or two in advance are enough.

Buyers’ questions on seals & valves

After how many cooks do you change the seal?

Every one to two years depending on use, or as soon as it hardens, cracks or lets steam escape.

How do you identify your pressure cooker's seal?

By the exact model printed under the appliance and by the diameter. An approximate seal will not build pressure properly.

How do you extend the life of a pressure-cooker seal?

Hand washing after every use and storing the lid resting upside down rather than locked, so the seal stays relaxed.

Does the seal hold smells?

Yes, especially after spiced dishes. Soaking in white vinegar reduces them, without always removing them.

Steam is coming out at the side — what now?

Stop cooking and check the seal and its seat. A side leak means the closure is not correct.

Should the valve be replaced at the same time?

The valve wears more slowly than the seal, but it clogs. You rinse it after every cook and check that it moves freely before closing the lid.

Can a new seal leak?

If it is badly seated or the pot rim is dirty, yes. Clean the seat and reposition before concluding it is faulty.

How do you know a gasket needs changing?

It has hardened, it keeps the print of the lid, or steam hisses round the rim. None of those three is recoverable: the gasket gets replaced.

What to take away from seals & valves

The seal is the part that decides how long a pressure appliance lasts: change it every one to two years, on the exact reference. Store the lid resting upside down so as not to compress it, and check the valve before every cook.

The gist of seals & valves, at a glance

  • Cost per gram: 20 to 73, on 5 of the 8 models.
  • Weight: 10 to 70 g (2.5 oz), on 5 of the 8 models.

Seals & valves, side by side

There is no table here, and the reason is in the listings. Enough of these 8 products name the same rows — replacement interval, material — for a column to qualify, and too few publish a figure in them: the column would compare blanks rather than models. Each product page says what its own maker published.
