Cecotec 03816 review

A 10-liter countertop oven at 1,000 W, adjustable up to 230 °C (446 °F) on a 60-minute timer, with quartz heating elements, a double-glazed door and an audible alarm at the end of cooking. A baking tray, a grill rack and a handle with tongs are supplied.

The net of it A competent small oven that publishes more than its size suggests: the ceiling in degrees, the timer in minutes, the element type, the door. What it does not publish — and what this family lives on — is the internal width. Ten liters is a volume, and a volume tells you nothing about whether a baking tray you already own will slide in. There is no fan either, which the OptimumX, the Sommertal and the Rommelsbacher all have.

What is published

10 liters, 1,000 W, adjustable up to 230 °C, on a 60-minute timer with an audible alarm at the end. The heating elements are protected quartz and the door is double glass.

That is a fuller specification than the price suggests, and the audible alarm in particular is the kind of thing that gets left off inexpensive ovens.

What is not

The internal width. This family is decided by whether a tray fits, and a liter figure is a volume — two ovens of the same liters can differ by four centimeters of usable width. Cecotec supplies its own tray, which solves the problem in the box and not in your cupboard.

There is also no minimum temperature: 230 °C (446 °F) is a ceiling, not a range.

No fan

The other three ovens on this site all have convection. This one does not, which shows most on anything baked rather than toasted.

In the box

A baking tray, a grill rack, and a handle with tongs for getting them out — the third being a small piece of thoughtfulness that several more expensive ovens omit.

The plus side, and the minus

Strengths

  • Publishes its temperature ceiling — 230 °C (446 °F) — and its timer, 60 minutes
  • Quartz heating elements and a double-glazed door at the entry price here
  • Audible alarm at the end of cooking, which not every mini oven has
  • Tray, grill rack and tongs handle all supplied

Compromises

  • 10 liters is the smallest cavity of the four, and no internal width is published
  • No minimum temperature published — only the ceiling
  • No convection: the three larger ovens here all have a fan
  • No offer on Amazon UK or Amazon US at the time of writing

What readers want to know

Will a standard baking tray fit?

Cecotec publishes 10 liters and no internal width, so this cannot be answered from the listing. A tray is supplied in the box, which is the practical answer for most buyers — but if you intend to use trays you already own, the internal width is the figure to find, and only Rommelsbacher publishes an equivalent on this site.

How low will it go?

Cecotec publishes the ceiling — 230 °C (446 °F) — and no floor. Of the four mini ovens here, the Sommertal publishes 100–230 °C (212 to 446 °F) and the Rommelsbacher 80–230 °C (176 to 446 °F); a published range is more useful than a published maximum.
