Two large waffles at once, 1,000 W, and an adjustable thermostat — the only browning control published in this family. Stainless steel lid, non-stick plates, indicator lights, non-slip feet, and a body Tristar states can be stored upright or flat.
The net of it The one with a dial. Every other waffle iron in this family decides the browning for you; Tristar publishes an adjustable thermostat, and that is the difference between a waffle you accept and one you chose. Add two waffles per bake at 1,000 W and it covers a family, which the Bestron does not. What it does not tell you is how big the waffles are — no diameter, no plate depth, no external dimensions.
The thermostat
This is the reason to look at this model. Tristar publishes an
adjustable thermostat for the browning level; the Bestron, the Krups
and the Breville all publish an automatic one. A dial does not make better
waffles by itself, but it is the difference between the machine’s idea of
done and yours.
Two at a time, at 1,000 W
1,000 W is the highest published power of the four here, and two
waffles per bake is what separates a family appliance from a novelty one.
Tristar’s own guidance is worth repeating: preheat before the first batch,
and spread the batter evenly to avoid overflow.
Build and storage
A stainless steel lid, non-slip feet, and — a small thing that decides
where an appliance lives — Tristar states it can be stored upright or
flat. Only the Krups and the Breville make the same claim in this
family.
The plates
Non-stick and fixed. Tristar states that metal utensils must not be used
on them, which is the standard instruction for every coated plate here.
No plate depth and no waffle diameter are published, so the “large” in the
listing stays unquantified.
Buying it in the United States
The Amazon.com listing gives the voltage as 230 V — this is a European
appliance, and it is shown as currently unavailable, with no US price
read when this page was revised. On a 120-volt outlet a 230-volt waffle
iron reaches a fraction of its temperature, and a plug adapter does not
change that.
The browning dial is the feature to look for in a US model. On this
site the GreenPan Elite four-square waffle maker
publishes a shade dial and two plate sets, at $299.95; for removable,
dishwasher-safe plates at a fraction of that, the
BLACK+DECKER 3-in-1
at $48.99 and the OSTBA 3-in-1
at $29.99 are sold for 120 V.

What readers want to know
Can metal utensils be used on the plates?
Tristar states explicitly that they should not, to protect the non-stick coating. That instruction is the maker’s own and it applies to every non-stick plate in this family, whether or not the listing repeats it.
How large are the two waffles?
Tristar describes them as large and does not publish a diameter or a plate depth. Of the four waffle irons here, only Bestron publishes a waffle size — 10 cm (3.9 in) — and that is on a mini model.

550 W · Ø 3.9 in (10 cm) · 6.1 × 4.4 × 8 in (15.4 × 11.3 × 20.3 cm)
A single 3.9 in (10 cm) waffle at a time, 550 W, and the only appliance in this family whose external dimensions and weight Bestron publishes in full. Automatic temperature regulation with a power light and a ready light, insulated handle, anti-slip feet, non-stick plates that do not come out.
Best for: A child’s birthday, a drawer with 20 cm (7.9 in) of space, and one waffle at a time.
The only waffle iron of the four with plates that come out. Breville publishes a DuraCeramic coating it describes as outperforming standard non-stick, a fully enclosed plate system to stop overflow, a clip system for the waffle rise, upright storage, a cool-touch handle and integrated cord storage.
Best for: Anyone who has thrown away a waffle iron because the coating went.
The FDK Iconic, a shape Krups states has been in its range for over twenty years. 850 W, ceramic-coated non-stick plates described as scratch-resistant, deep plates with large baking surfaces, vertical storage with integrated cord winding, and a ready indicator.
Best for: Deep Belgian-style waffles from a machine that will still be a current model in five years.
