A single 3.9 in (10 cm) waffle at a time, 550 W, and the only appliance in this family whose external dimensions and weight Bestron publishes in full. Automatic temperature regulation with a power light and a ready light, insulated handle, anti-slip feet, non-stick plates that do not come out.
The net of it Judged as what it is, it is faultless: a 3.9 in (10 cm) waffle, a light that says when it is ready, and a body that stores in a drawer. Judged as a waffle iron for a family, it is not one — one small waffle per bake means the fourth person eats fifteen minutes after the first. Bestron is also the only maker of the four to publish what the thing actually measures, which on an appliance sold for its size is exactly the right figure to publish.
What it is
A 3.9 in (10 cm) waffle, one at a time, from a 550 W body that measures
15.4 × 11.3 × 20.3 cm and weighs 1.06 kg. Bestron is the only
maker in this family to publish all four figures, and on an appliance sold
on its size that is precisely the specification a buyer needs.
The lights
Two of them: a power light and a ready light. That second one is worth
more than it sounds. A waffle iron with only a power light gives no signal
that it has reached temperature, and the first waffle of every session
pays for it.
The plates
Non-stick, and fixed. They do not come out, which means cleaning
happens around the hinge with a brush rather than in the sink, and there
is no spare set to buy when the coating eventually goes. On a machine at
this price that is a reasonable trade; it is worth knowing that the
Breville in this same family takes its plates out.
What is not published
Any browning control. Bestron describes the thermostat as automatic, and
does not publish a temperature or an adjustment range. The plate depth is
not published either.
The plus side, and the minus
Strengths
Bestron publishes the waffle diameter (3.9 in (10 cm)), the dimensions (6.1 × 4.4 × 8 in (15.4 × 11.3 × 20.3 cm)) and the weight (1.06 kg (2.3 lb)) — none of the other three do
Ready light as well as a power light, so preheating is not guesswork
The smallest and lightest appliance on this site: it lives in a drawer, not on the countertop

Compromises
One 3.9 in (10 cm) waffle per bake — a household of four cooks in shifts
Fixed plates: they cannot be removed for washing, and no spare set exists

What readers want to know
Can the plates be taken out to wash?
No. Bestron describes a non-stick coating that releases the batter and makes rinsing easier, but the plates are part of the body. On this model, cleaning is done around the hinge rather than in the sink.
Does it make pancakes too?
Bestron states the plates suit mini pancakes as well as a mini waffle. The plate pattern is fixed, so the shape is the same whatever the batter.
