The FDK Iconic, a shape Krups states has been in its range for over twenty years. 850 W, ceramic-coated non-stick plates described as scratch-resistant, deep plates with large baking surfaces, vertical storage with integrated cord winding, and a ready indicator.
The net of it The long-service option. Twenty years in a catalog is not a performance claim, it is an availability claim — and in a family where a discontinued plate turns a working iron into scrap, that is the specification that ages best. The ceramic coating is a genuine step above the standard non-stick on the Bestron and the Tristar. Against it: no browning control, and plates that still do not come out.
Twenty years in the catalog
Krups states this design has been in its range for over twenty years. On
most appliances that is marketing; on a waffle iron it is the single most
useful thing you can know. This family’s real failure mode is not a broken
machine, it is a worn coating on a model whose plates stopped being made —
and a shape that has survived two decades is one whose parts have had time
to keep being stocked.
The plates
Ceramic-coated, and Krups describes them as durable and
scratch-resistant, which is a stronger claim than the plain non-stick on
the Bestron and the Tristar. They are described as extra deep with large
baking surfaces: the thick waffle rather than the thin one. No depth in
millimeters is published.
They are still fixed to the body. Ceramic or not, cleaning happens around
the hinge.
Power and controls
850 W, an on/off switch, and a ready indicator. There is no browning
control — for that, the Tristar in this family is the only one of the four
with an adjustable thermostat.
Storage
Vertical, with the cord wound into the body. Together with the Breville,
this is the model that takes the least countertop when it is not in use.
The plus side, and the minus
Strengths
Ceramic-coated plates, which Krups describes as scratch-resistant — a different claim from ordinary non-stick
A model Krups states has been in the range over twenty years: plates and parts have had time to stay available
Vertical storage with integrated cord winding
Deep plates with large baking surfaces, per Krups — the “gourmet” waffle rather than the thin one
Compromises
Plates are ceramic-coated but still fixed: no removal, no spare set
No browning control published — an on/off switch and a ready light
Krups publishes neither plate depth nor external dimensions
The UK price is more than double the German one at the time of writing
Krups describes the plates as ceramic-coated, durable and scratch-resistant, and says they make baking and cleaning easier. That is the maker’s claim rather than a measurement; what it does not change is that the plates are fixed to the body.
Is it a Belgian waffle iron?
Krups describes the plates as extra deep with large baking surfaces and plenty of room for toppings. It does not publish a plate depth in millimeters, so the comparison with a specific waffle style cannot be made on figures.

Best for: Anyone who has thrown away a waffle iron because the coating went.
1,000 W · 2 waffles · adjustable thermostat · European 230 V model
